Luke’s primary occupation is Cattle Manager for a 6,000 acre cow/calf operation in East Texas, overseeing 1,200 registered and commercial cattle as well as an equine breeding program which produces 15 or more ranch-raised colts annually. He is responsible for all phases of the operation including marketing, herd health, breeding, and providing nutrition programs to achieve optimal reproduction and maximum weight gain with minimal cost. Luke also directs grassland and timber management on the ranch, as well as predator and feral hog control.
Previously, Luke managed a ranch that produced horse quality hay and feeder calves. His responsibilities also included soil fertility, weed control, and equipment usage/maintenance.
Luke has experience in fence design and construction, as well as working/stock pen design to produce efficient cattle flow and handling ease. He uses a variety of handling methods to gather and work cattle including dogs, horses, all-terrain vehicles, and the trusty feed sack method.
In 2007, Luke received an Associate in Science degree in Business from Blinn College in Bryan, Texas. In the same year, he became certified in artificial insemination and palpation through Bovine Elite, Inc.
Luke competes regularly in area ranch rodeos, and has won the Top Hand Award multiple times. An avid bow hunter for 20 years, he loves the outdoors and goes hunting and fishing every chance he gets.
